Beneath the Swirling Sky
by Carolyn Leiloglou
Beneath the Swirling Sky by Carolyn Leiloglou is a masterpiece!! I must say at first I was skeptical, but as soon as I read the first page, I knew it was going to be a wonderful read. Beneath the Swirling Sky, is the first book in a trilogy, called: “The Restorationists.” The storyline? Edge of your seat. Vincent, named after Vincent van Gogh, and his adopted sister Lili are staying with their mother’s Uncle Leo, in Texas, while their parents enjoy a cruise. The problem with this is that Uncle Leo is an art conservator, and at the moment, and possibly forever, as far as he is concerned, Vincent wants absolutely nothing to do with art. All he really wants to do is play video games. At least that way he won’t really have to have contact with art. But upon arriving at Uncle Leo’s house, things begin to change. Surrounded by art is an understatement. It feels like there is art in every nook and cranny of the house. Things become even more difficult when Vincent meets his second cousin: Georgia. And then, things become seemingly impossible. Lili disappears into a painting! Not just any painting, a very famous one: “Starry Night.” This not only means he has to be around art, but travel through paintings! Vincent discovers that his family are the last of the Restorationists! And as he faces obstacle after obstacle, alongside Georgia, he is forced to confront his insecurities, past, and future. This book will keep you turning page after page until you reach the end. (Which you might feel the urge to do as soon as you read chapter one.)
My Favorite Character: “Georgia! She’s zesty and stubborn and, well, very lovable!” —Millie J.
