The Hour of Gold—

The sun shines softly over meadows of green, As the light cascades over fluttering leaves. The song of a bobolink comes comes softly from above, Interrupted by the call of a mourning dove. As the sun sinks lower in the deep blue sky, The night wakes to kiss the day goodbye. The sound of chattering squirrels from a nearby tree Blends sweetly with a quail’s simple melody.
Then the night comes upon us with surprising haste, And the stars trace a pattern of silvery lace. And the shimmering light that comes from above Reminds us of our true Father’s love.
Then the sun sinks away with a final wistful sigh, And the day slips off with a final wave goodbye.
So The Hour of Gold has come and gone as quickly as you see, And with it came the wish for a night of sweet dreams. For many have captured these few minutes in poems and paintings too, And now I capture it once again for you. -Millie J.
