Tree Blood

The sap dribbles down the bark, From a gouge, a jagged mark. For trees are lively, loving beings, So surely they have a heart, a heart that bleeds. The tree is young, a sapling, you see, It must cry out, though silently. I wonder if a bird, flying by, Gave a careless rap, like thunder in the sky. The tree is hurt so bleed it does, A sparkling, copper-colored trail of blood. -Millie J.
